Model United Nations empowers students to learn about the world while practicing their public speaking, debating, and negotiation skills. In a Model UN simulation, students are assigned to represent different countries and solve real international issues that the United Nations is facing — including the COVID-19 Coronavirus Pandemic.
The Model United Nations Institute Online is a fun and educational program that features a different debate topic every week. From Monday-Friday, our instructors will lead a daily one-hour online Model UN session, and students will be assigned about 30 minutes per day of research and debate prep work. Digital workbooks will be provided.
This is an after-school online program to provide access to Model United Nations education and practice for students who are currently unable to attend their regular MUN programs due to the global coronavirus pandemic. Who can enroll? What are the dates and times?
The course is open to high school students (ages 14-18) and middle school students (ages 11-13). Students of all Model UN experience levels, including beginners, are welcome to join!
We will keep classes to about 15 students each to enable a lively Model UN debate online. Students may be separated by Model UN experience level if there is enough enrollment. You may enroll for the entire month. They may also enroll for a single week.
What are the technical requirements for the ideal learning experience?
We will be using Zoom to run the class. Students are highly recommended to have the following:
- An electronic device such as a laptop or tablet for typing documents
- High-speed Internet access
- A microphone and headset
- A video camera
- A quiet space
- Their own email address to receive course materials and the log-in link directly
How can I enroll?
Enrollment is open now! Students may enroll as individuals (they’ll get to meet students from other schools) or together with their entire school’s Model UN club members.
Students are recommended to enroll for one month to build up their confidence and learn a wide range of international issues and country policies. Students may also enroll for each week separately.

Financial aid is unavailable at this time, but we welcome donations from parents who would like to contribute to the financial aid fund.
Enrollment closes on Sunday, March 22nd, 11:59pm ET for the course beginning March 23rd. Students will receive their online log-in instructions and workbooks on Monday morning.
