The Diplomat Program is Level 1 of the MUN Institute. The program is designed for high school students ages 14-18 who have no MUN experience, or who have a little experience but want to improve their MUN skills. In the Diplomat Program, students gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to be successful and have fun while participating in Model United Nations.
The Diplomat Program introduces high school students to current events and global issues. It helps them practice public speaking and negotiation. It encourages them to understand different points of view and experience different cultures. The MUN Institute also helps students develop self-confidence. It helps them succeed in high school, get into college, and prepare them for their careers.
The Diplomat Program teaches students the fundamentals of Model United Nations. Students learn:
- How to make speeches, including our speech frameworks & public speaking style tips;
- Introductory lessons on MUN rules of procedure;
- How to research a country and write research papers about global issues;
- How to negotiate with others in order to solve global problems and create realistic solutions in MUN committees;
- An easy to follow, step-by-step process for preparing for any type of Model UN conference;
- and much, much more.
Students get daily one-on-one feedback on their MUN skills, especially on their public speaking skills. Our MUN Mentors are the best and most successful college MUN leaders from prestigious colleges in North America and around the world. Our Mentors guide students through MUN simulations, including an all-day final simulation at the end of the week. Many MUN Mentors and students stay connected after the summer and continue to build MUN skills together.

Level 2: Ambassador
A Level 2: Ambassador
Is your child ready to take the next step in their Model UN journey?
In our advanced Ambassador Program, students move beyond the basics of MUN by learning about the intricacies of global issues – and how to solve them by utilizing high-level Model UN strategies. Ambassador-level students build upon their existing MUN skillset to refine their abilities in research, public speaking, resolution writing, negotiation, critical thinking, and leadership.
The Ambassador Program can elevate students’ MUN skills to the next level of competition – students will learn advanced Model UN skills and strategy, such as:
- How to write award-winning position papers using our SPEAR policy research framework;
- How to improve public speaking & debate skills, such as “framing the debate” using political framing theory;
- How to create solution frameworks that appeal to their fellow committee members;
- Advanced resolution writing and negotiation skills, including social dynamics, bloc building, and shuttle diplomacy;
- Advanced Model UN strategies, including the “5 Stages of Simulation,” competitive versus collaborative strategies, and how to position yourself for awards.
- Information about college admissions and future Model UN opportunities;
- And much, much more!

Level 3: Crisis
C Level 3: Crisis
The Crisis Program is Level 3 of the MUN Institute. The program is designed for high school students ages 14-18 with MUN experience who already participate in crisis committees, or are interested in moving from traditional MUN to crisis.
The Crisis Program is not available at Columbia University, but it is available at multiple other locations. Please click here to learn more about other campus locations.
Level 4: Student Leadership
S Level 4: Student Leadership
The Student Leadership Program is Level 4 of the MUN Institute. The program is designed for students with significant MUN experience who are taking on leadership roles in their MUN clubs. This specialized program teaches students how to be leaders in the world of Model UN. Students learn how to manage clubs, chair committees, plan conferences, and more.
