Program Details & Dates

Level 1: Diplomat

D Diplomat

Solve global problems. Speak with confidence.

This is what students learn in Model United Nations.

And this is how you can become a future leader.

The Diplomat Program is Level 1 of the MUN Institute. The program is designed for high school students ages 14-18 who have no MUN experience, or who have a little experience but want to improve their MUN skills. In the Diplomat Program, students gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to be successful and have fun while participating in Model United Nations.

The Diplomat Program introduces high school students to current events and global issues. It helps them practice public speaking and negotiation. It lets them see different points of view and experience different cultures. The MUN Institute also helps students develop self-confidence. It helps them succeed in high school, get into college, and prepare them for their careers.

The Diplomat Program teaches students the fundamentals of Model United Nations. Students learn:

  • How to make speeches, including our speech frameworks & public speaking style tips;
  • Introductory lessons on MUN rules of procedure;
  • How to research a country and write research papers about global issues;
  • How to negotiate solutions to global problems and come up with solutions in MUN committees;
  • An easy to follow, step-by-step process for preparing for Model UN conferences;
  • and much, much more.

Students get daily one-on-one feedback on their MUN skills, especially on their public speaking skills. Our MUN Mentors are the best and most successful MUNers from prestigious colleges in North America and around the world. Our Mentors guide students through MUN simulations, including an all-day final simulation at the end of the week.

Level 2: Ambassador

A Ambassador

Honorable Mention. Outstanding. Best Delegate.

The Ambassador Program is Level 2 of the MUN Institute. The program is designed for high school students ages 14-18 who have MUN experience and want to improve their MUN skills and become leaders in their MUN committees.

In our advanced Ambassador Program, delegates learn the intricacies of global issues and how to solve them by utilizing high-level Model UN strategies.

We know how exciting it is when you’ve won your first award at a major MUN conference – but Model UN is about more than the awards. You work hard because it pushes you to learn and improve in research, public speaking, resolution writing, negotiation, critical thinking, and leadership.

The Ambassador Program can elevate students’ MUN skills to the next level of competition – students will learn advanced Model UN skills and strategy, such as:

  • How to write award-winning position papers using our SPEAR policy research framework;
  • How to improve public speaking & debate skills, like “framing the debate” using political framing theory, and create solution frameworks that “stick” in the minds of other students;
  • Advanced resolution writing and negotiation skills, including social dynamics, bloc building, and shuttle diplomacy;
  • Advanced Model UN strategies, including the “5 Stages of Simulation,” competitive versus collaborative strategies, and how to position yourself for awards.
